A.J. Gravel, Managing Director

Biography

Mr. Gravel is the environmental and natural resource (ENR) practice group leader and managing director of the forensic history and analysis group for LECG. He has a bachelor of science degree and a masters degree in international business management and more than 18 years combined experience as a consulting expert and expert witness. Mr. Gravel has managed the execution of numerous environmental, products liability, and other investigations, and litigation support projects from the LECG’s Washington, DC office. He has provided testimony in both the expert and 30(b)(6) contexts.

Mr. Gravel’s primary areas of expertise include forensic history and environmental cost analysis. His environmental projects have dealt with numerous CERCLA, RCRA and toxic tort-related issues such as past industrial waste generation and disposal analysis; environmental liability estimation; waste-in database development and cost allocation analysis; environmental response cost claim package development and/or validation; recovery of costs under CERCLA; compliance with the National Contingency Plan (NCP); Natural Resource Damages (NRD) baseline investigations and claims analysis; mergers and acquisitions due diligence analysis; potentially responsible party (PRP) identification; corporate succession and asset searches; land use and business operation histories; insurance investigations and government involvement studies.
Mr. Gravel’s case experience includes work on specific issues relating to the waste disposal and recycling, mining and smelting, petroleum, chemicals, shipbuilding, ship conversion and scrapping, turbine engine manufacturing and aircraft engine overhaul industries among others. Some of the analysis performed on these types of matters has included the examination of alternate causation, standard-of-care state-of-knowledge, industry practices, level-of-awareness, cost analysis (validation, estimation and cost allocation), cost recovery, regulatory development and regulatory oversight issues. Mr. Gravel has worked on cases national and international in scope and multi-jurisdictional cases for individual defendants and joint defense groups alike.
