Ling Yu, Affiliate

Biography

Ling Yu is an affiliate with the Lake Oswego, Oregon office of LECG, where she uses her extensive industry expertise to consult and provide expert witness testimony. Her scope of expertise includes CDOs, ABS, auction rate securities, structured products, derivatives, counterparty risk and liquidity management, fund industry, infrastructure/project finance and other structured finance -related matters.

After completing her MBA at Yale University, Ms. Yu began her career at Standard & Poor’s. She spent three years analyzing and monitoring various low investment grade/high yield infrastructure companies and project finance transactions in the U.S., Latin America and Asia.

Ms. Ling has evaluated CDOs since the early development of the product in 1996. She evaluated credit risks of portfolios, transaction structures, sufficiency of portfolio cash flows, hedge positions, performed due diligence on fund managers, and negotiated legal documents for transactions in New York, London, Tokyo for over 100 transactions/portfolios. The types of assets ranged from CMBS, RMBS, ABS, to high yield corporate loans and bonds, project finance loans, and investment grade corporate bonds.

In 1999, Ms. Yu began evaluating derivative products. She created the first internal training manual for credit default swaps, interest rate and FX swap for Standard & Poor’s credit analysts. She also analyzed over 100 credit link notes based on credit default or total return swaps for CP and term markets.

Ms. Yu also spent three years analyzing asset-backed commercial paper products (ABCP) for the US and European markets. She analyzed transaction structures and various forms of liquidity facilities, assessed portfolio credit risks, and conducted legal documentations reviews and negotiations for over 300 asset pools of ABS, CDO, CMBS, and RMBS financing through ABCP conduits.

Prior to joining LECG, Ms. Yu was a senior vice president of structured products at DBRS, Inc. In that capacity, Ms. Yu represented DBRS as a sector expert by serving as a panelist at major industry conferences. Key accomplishments during her tenure with DBRS include the restructuring of a three billion dollar CMBS portion of an investment vehicle in 2007. In 2008, Ms. Yu developed restructuring criteria for RMBS CDOs and warehousing CLO facilities, and led the effort to analyze 29 portfolios based on these criteria. Ms. Yu also helped to transition the structure of Canadian ABCP conduits sponsored by non-bank entities to international standards.
