Experts Mark Bezant and Mike Pilgrem join LECG

What: LECG, a global expert services firm, announces that valuation and intellectual property experts, Mark Bezant and Mike Pilgrem, have joined its finance and damages practice based in the London office.
Who: Mark Bezant, a managing director, advises clients on all aspects of valuing businesses, companies, listed and unlisted securities, intellectual property and intangible assets. He has experience in a variety of contexts, including: mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, regulatory compliance (including fairness opinions), financial reporting, tax planning, expert determination and dispute resolution. Prior to LECG, he was a partner in the valuation group of Deloitte’s corporate finance practice. Mr Bezant was also formerly the partner-in-charge of the UK economic and financial consulting practice of Arthur Andersen. Mr Bezant has been appointed as an expert witness or independent expert on numerous occasions, including matters before the UK High Court, the Patents Court, the Restrictive Practices Court, the Royal Court of Jersey, the Family Division, the Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Copyright Tribunal, as well as in private arbitrations, a mediation under the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s jurisdiction and various matters before the European Court and Commission. Mr Bezant has published and presented extensively, in particular on intellectual property matters, and is the author of ‘The Use of Intellectual Property as Security for Debt Finance’ published by the Intellectual Property Institute.
Mike Pilgrem, a principal, has over 17 years experience in audit, financial consulting, and business valuation for a range of UK and international clients in different industries. Mr Pilgrem provides advice about the value of companies and their intangible assets in a variety of contexts – for sale or purchase, for fiscal purposes, for financial statement disclosure, for regulatory purposes and in disputes. Mr Pilgrem also provides advice in the context of disputes, including minority shareholder actions, post-acquisition disputes, expert determinations, loss of profit claims, matrimonial matters and professional negligence claims. He has been appointed as expert witness before the UK’s High Court and given testimony as an expert witness before a tribunal under the London Court of Arbitration rules. His experience includes the preparation of reports for use in cases before tribunals or determinations by experts, including some of the largest commercial claims seen in the UK. Prior to joining LECG, Mr Pilgrem was a senior manager in the economic and financial consulting practice of Arthur Andersen and then a director in the valuation group of the corporate finance practice of Deloitte. Mr Pilgrem holds an MA in Natural Sciences (specialising in physics and theoretical physics) from Cambridge University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
