Sencer Ecer, PhD, Principal

Biography

Dr. Ecer provides economic expertise in complex litigation cases and other economic consulting matters. His recent expert roles are statistical consulting for the U.S. Department of Justice on reverse discrimination issues and statistical consulting for a major mail-order pharmacy on pharmacist errors. His recent case management experience includes extremely high profile and large cases including a path-breaking executive compensation case and an influential international treaty arbitration case involving the valuation of a world-renowned company. Dr. Ecer managed cases and provided economic analysis in numerous other cases in the antitrust and global competition policy practice. Most frequently, he assessed the competitive impact of several high-profile proposed mergers and analyzed economic issues in various non-merger antitrust litigation matters, mainly class certification and price-fixing issues. Dr. Ecer's non-litigation consulting activities at LECG include a white paper on the economics of mutual funds industry for a sizeable investment management company and a series of economic impact analyses for a large retailer. His international experience includes cases related to Russia (oil and consumer credit), Turkey (electricity), and Jordan (pharmaceutical).

As an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Public Policy Institute for more than four years, Dr. Ecer supervised 26 master's theses on a variety of economic and policy themes. As a requirement of the program, all of these theses contain econometric modeling and analysis. He has also taught courses titled Economic Statistics at the economics departments of Georgetown University and the University of Texas at Austin. His current research focuses on the effects of market structure on multimarket collusion possibilities in vertically related markets as well as prolific areas where econometric techniques are fruitfully applied with a focus on health economics.
